I document a case of parental care by a rodent of the genus Sigmodon in the dry forest of the municipality of Villa de Leyva, Boyacá, Colombia. One adult individual, registered through photographs, was found carrying a young in its mouth outside the nest, through herbaceous vegetation and leaf litter. This is the first report of a parental care for this genus in its natural environment.
